An afternoon at WVXU
It's a little out of order (Blogger.com wouldn't let me post this photo yesterday -- the wonders of technology) but here's Cincinnati Opera's Evans Mirageas interviewing Sandra Bernhard, head of CCM's opera department and director for "A Masked Ball." In case you can't see the not-too-subtle sign, this is for WVXU's "Around Cincinnati" spot, to air 7 p.m. July 9.
Here's the link to VXU's Web site, which has, incidentally, a tribute to Oscar Treadwell that you can listen to!

Geez, Janelle, re: Cincinnati Opera...
I know this isn't a usual reaction, but during the Muni era, I gave up my excellent subscription tickets and haven't been back since.
I thought his tenure was so horrible; and that the folks in power to think that he was a good idea--well, I just have developed a distaste for Cincinati Opera, and I am frustrated that I simply cannot get over it.....
This from someone who attended every performance of every opera each season...
I'll go out of town now rather than attend CO productions.
I want to get over it; I love the Music Hall experience--I just cannot shake the thought that Patti Beggs and the Board thought Muni was a good thing????
It just won't go away...
Apparently the Muni poison takes eons to purge from the system...
What the Muni era said to me was that THIS is what the CO Board thinks we should want, but we are just too ignorant to know what is good... So, what the heck, we'll pander to the ignoramus base, bring in Evans and give the masses what they want. We'll lower ourselves because we need to sell tickets to the local idiots.
Dear Anonymous, I appreciate your concern very much. I think that much of the public doesn't realize that people are hired by the board to pursue the board's "mission," whatever that may be. I'm not sure what the mission is, at the moment. The jury is still out!! I hope you saw "L'Etoile," though, either at Glimmerglass or NYCO (since you've stopped going to Cincinnati). It was truly delightful. But even with that, I received a phone message from someone who left at intermission, because of the torture method in the opera -- impalement!
