Best or worst of times?
Douglas McLennan, editor of artsjournal.com, has posed the question, "Is the this best or worst of times for classical music?" in a blog running this week. He was inspired by a May column by Allan Kozinn in the New York Times calling this the golden period for classical music, a time when great recordings and performances are more accessible by the general public than ever.
What do you think? I'm participating (I hope to contribute at least once daily), with other national critics, including Peter Dobrin, Philadelphia Inquirer; Andrew Druckenbrod, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; Klaus Heyman, Naxos; Barbara Jepson, Wall Street Journal; Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle; Allan Kozinn, The New York Times; and Frank Oteri, NewMusicBox. The blog ends Wednesday night. You can visit www.artsjournal.com, or here's the link.
