Slatkin takes the Detroit baton
Leonard Slatkin has been named music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, succeeding -- after a two-year search -- the popular Neeme Jarvi (Paavo's dad).
"Five months ago, this wasn't even on my radar," Slatkin told Larry Johnson for the Detroit News, "and now I could not be more excited."

Leonard is also Professor of Conducting at the Indiana University School of Music. So it's in the neighborhood.
