Eleventh hour gift saves Columbus Symphony -- for now
The Associated Press is reporting that a large donation was made to the Columbus Symphony, announced by the board of trustees Monday. Had there been no gift, the orchestra would have folded today.

Very generous of someone to help finish out the season. My friends in Columbus think the long term prospects for the orchestra are poor if not non-existent. They doubt it will continue after May...mainly due to a lack of interest by the community.
If this happens, I hope the Cincinnati Symphony actively steps up marketing to that area - at least some people will come to hear a world class group just a couple of hours away from home.
OK...CSO..."world class"...got it...Let's move on to another superlative that can be worn out. The constant repeating of this mantra is not going to bring one more person into Music Hall. I think everyone is more than aware of the quality of the orgaization.
Target marketing to other cities in the regional, esp. Columbus, seems worth exploring. Or maybe the CSO should perform a series there. It always amazes me that there are people like anon 12:16pm who put down other people's ideas without offering anything constructive of their own.
How about a series of concerts in Sarasota or Naples or some FL city like the Cleveland Orchestra does regularly? Or organize a run-out mini subscription series in other large cities.
I always thought the CSO should be marketed in the midwest edition of the Times. There are quite a few folks in the tri-state area that would take notice(and hopefully attend. Expensive, I'm sure. But an ideal audience.
